A worn-out bench mechanism is the bane of every concert pianist's - and concert technician's - existence. Fortunately, the Jansen artist bench is equipped with replaceable, oil impregnated metal bushings. Newer Jansen benches, made within the last 15 years or so, also include set screws for tightening other parts of the mechanism. When the bench starts wobbling from front to back, taking up the slack and re-tightening the set screws should help. If it wobbles from side to side, replacing the eight metal bushings will solidify the mechanism.
